ACME Roofing on Location: Gig Harbor

This month, we are featuring the another installment of our ACME Roofing on Location series. This series is intended to highlight our recent projects around Washington state, as well as to educate our customers on current roofing materials and the new possibilities available in the art of roofing. This week’s post highlights a project that we completed in Gig Harbor, using a product from Malarkey Roofing.

Gig Harbor Before and After

Neighborhood Overview

Gig Harbor, home to several thousand Washingtonians, is known as the ‘gateway to the Olympic Peninsula.’ As one of Washington’s wealthiest cities, the real estate market in Gig Harbor is also thriving. With a homeownership rate of 59.9% and 57.0% of the housing market in single-family homes, roofing is highly important here. While many homes (82.5%) are less than 50 years old, there are still many reasons to re-roof, particularly the climate.

Gig Harbor’s climate, like the rest of the Puget Sound area, is incredibly rainy. With nearly six inches of rain per month during the wet winter months, in this climate, your roof must be more than just protection from the elements. It should also help protect your home from the exterior damage that intense rain can cause.

Project Overview

For this roofing project, the client chose the Malarkey Legacy in Midnight Black. There were several defining factors behind this choice for our client. The Legacy is fortified with durable NEX® polymer modified asphalt technology to promote superior granule adhesion and extreme weather protection, including Class 4 impact resistance. The Legacy line of shingles also includes Scotchgard™ Protector from 3M for added protection against algae-causing black streaks.

Project Benefits

Benefits to choosing this particular Malarkey Legacy shingle model for this Gig Harbor project are as follows. First, the Scotchgard Protector from 3M is perfect for the wet Gig Harbor climate, as it prevents damaging algae build-up. Second, similar to the algae protection, is the NEX asphalt technology for extreme weather protection. This means that the new Legacy shingles will be extremely long-lasting, even in harsh climates, which could become very important in the future.
